Chance police visit results in bust at CBCoC

By Hemp | January 3, 2002

C Bell writes,

“The Victoria Police after responding to a call from Ted Smith of the CBCoC leave apprehending approximately $7000 in cannabis medicine, $300 in cash and $100 in cookies. Aswell, membership records and several police photographs were collected as evidence. It seems that a blacklisted member had summonded a cop off the streets to investigate activities conducted at the CBCoC. He implied to the officer that the CBCoC had been distributing cannabis to non-members-that is people without incurable medical conditions. A grand total of 7 police converged on the CBCoC after the one policeman arrived after Ted had finished talking with the police that he had called earlier. The police first arrived when a blacklisted member had been making threats to Ted just after opening time. Ted felt threatened and naturally called the police for help. The suspended member also summonded a policeman off the street and convinced him to enter Ted’s bookstore which contains the CBCoC…..”

As the lone cop entered Ted’s bookstore, he spoted a member at a desk rolling a cannabis joint. Normally as a rule cannabis must not be prepared in the public confines of Ted’s Bookstore but in the closed space of the smoke room. The cop, responding to a complaint by the citizen, began to engage the suspect rolling the “contraband”; unfortunately in a restricted area of the CBCoC. Then the cop called in back-up which arrived swiftly as the main station is only blocks away from the bookstore. They decide hesitantly to proceed with search and siezure. When all is done police confiscate all cannabis and cash on the premise of the CBCoC.

Sadly, member after member turn up for their medicine on the day of the bust and are turned away because the police decided to engage a member for possession and farther infiltrate the confines of the CBCoC ands it’s membership.

The CBCoC will reopen again today and the police have stated that the federal Department of Justice will review this case and they will react to their judgement. No arrests were made not even the roller. The CBCoC hopes that all property of the club will be returned and that the justice system will protect the providers of medical cannabis and the right’s of those currently benefiting from this sacred medicine.
