Vancouver Mayor Philip Owen’s call for discussion on decriminalizing pot:

Most readers agree pot possession shouldn’t be a crime, others say we mustn’t overlook it’s industrial
benefits.

Don’t legalize it, decriminalize it

I think we should decriminalize pot, but not legalize it.

It makes me sick thinking my tax dollars go towards persecuting pot
smokers and shutting down grow-ops when we have dangerous and scary
drugs such as meth and heroin to worry about.

A pack of cigarettes a day is a lot worse then one joint a week.
Let’s get our priorities straight, people.

MIKE SMITH, Burnaby

Legalize it as an industry

Now is the time to start looking at legalizing marijuana as an
industry – for the medical benefits, the fibre, the fuel and for
the industrial applications.

GEORGE BAILEY, Richmond

Loosen laws

It’s time governments loosened up, stopped taxing everything
in swight and put their energies into legalizing marijuana
instead.

MELVIN RUSSELL, Surrey

Owen smoking?

Based on some of the decisions Mayor Philip Owen has made over
the past few years, no doubt he would want to decriminalize pot,
because it seems like he’s been smoking a lot of it.

He should take a long hard look at this and reconsider.

ED ROGERS, Coquitlam

He’s on right track

It’s time to talk about decriminalizing pot. Owen is on
the right track.

KEITH HILL, Mission

First ghosts, now pot?

What on Earth is wrong iwth Mayor Owen? First he sees ghosts,
now he wants to decriminalize pot? He should be replaced.

RUTH BURGESS, Richmond

It’s stinky

The person on the main floor of our apartment building smokes
marijuana all hours of the night. The smell filters all through
the building. Second-hand marijuana smoke is gross for someone
like myself who has asthma, especially when they smoke the
product called skunk.

Health wise, we’re definately taking a step backwards if they
legalize this.

ROD MacDONNELL, Vancouver

Kids will keep using

Marijuana should not be legalized. It’s going to make it really
difficult for parents to stop their kids from using drugs if
they’re illegal.

The whole idea of decriminalizing any drug, including marijuana,
is just another attack on the family.

LIZ LUYBEN, Langley
