Police seized more than half of a million dollars worth of compressed marijuana in the wee hours of yesterday morning at Rampanalgas Village on the northeast coast.
A 20-year-old resident of Barataria was arrested in relation to the incident. According to police reports at around 1.50 am yesterday, a party of police officers, headed by Cpl Anthony Wight and including Detective Vaughn Waldropt PCs Kenny Garcia, Dave Bhaggan, Owen Henlee and Gilmore Thomas from the Toco Station were on patrol along the Toco Main Road when they attempted to stop a car travelling south towards Sangre Grande.
The vehicle failed to stop and the police gave chase and intercepted the car at Rampanalagas. The driver, the lone occupant, was ordered out of the vehicle and on searching police found several packages of compressed marijuana on the back seat. The driver was arrested and the marijuana seized. He was taken to the Toco Police Station where he was charged with the possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. Police believe the compressed marijuana came from neighbouring countries and the marijuana was part of a shipment intransit to Trinidad. The man is expected to appear before a Sangre Grande magistrate tomorrow.
