Some seven kilos of high-grade marijuana leaves with a street value of P70,000 were seized when anti-illegal drugs operatives conducted a buy-bust operation in Binondo, Manila last week, police announced yesterday.
Western Police District (WPD)s District Anti-Illegal Drugs-Special Operations Task Group (DAID-SOTG) chief Superintendent Rodolfo Llorca identified the arrested courier as Mario Enrico Gayoso Jr., 22, of Barangay Cupang, Antipolo City.
According to Llorca, he had received information regarding the delivery of marijuana leaves at the corner of Claro M. Recto and Juan Luna streets in Binondo.
Posing as buyers, the officers met two men at a designated place. The dealers showed them a bag containing dried marijuana leaves.
During the transaction, one of the suspects sensed the presence of policemen and immediately ran away, leaving his companion behind.
Police chased the fleeing suspect, but lost him in the crowd in Divisoria.
During interrogation, the suspect identified his companion as his father, Enrico Gayoso Sr., who he said is the courier of illegal drugs coming from Antipolo City.
The suspect and his father were charged with violation of the anti-illegal drugs law.
Llorca said the arrest of the suspect was the result of the police intensified monitoring of suspected drug dealers in the city.
