MOULIN APPOINTED EARL RUSSELL CHAIR IN PAIN MANAGEMENT

Dr. Dwight Moulin

Dwight Moulin, professor in the Departments of Clinical Neurological Sciences and Oncology at Western, has been appointed as the Earl Russell Chair in Pain Management through September 30, 2010.

The academic mission of the Earl Russell Chair is to facilitate and foster interdisciplinary research in pain and to advance teaching of pain management throughout the programs of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.

Moulin, a Western graduate, is also Medical Director of Pain and Symptom Management at London Regional Cancer Program. He completed a two year fellowship in pain and neuro-oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

Moulin is an international authority on the role of opioid analgesics in the management of chronic pain. He published the first randomized controlled trial of morphine for chronic non-cancer pain which is considered a landmark study in this area of research.

He also has several current research projects funded by CIHR and CFI. These include the safety and efficacy of marijuana for chronic pain, the role of sublingual opioids for cancer pain and the long-term outcome of the management of neuropathic pain.
