Tax man puts grab on pot grower
Profits from grow op not reported, so man jailed for 6 months

An Ottawa man who tax investors say was involved in a marijuana grow operation has been sentenced to six months in jail for not reporting the grow-op revenue on his income tax.
Van Hai Le was sentenced today after pleading guilty to one count of income tax evasion last month.
According to the Canada Revenue Agency, Le was a “major player” in a grow operation and he didn’t report $200,000 he made off the grow op in 2004.
Le evaded paying $47,132 in federal taxes. He was sentenced to jail in lieu of the fine.
A spokesman with the revenue agency said the information on a tax return is secret unless a court asks for the information.
In theory, Le could have filed a tax return reporting the “business” revenue and only explain the business if he was audited or asked by a court.
Le also faced criminal charges in connection to the grow op.
