Firefighters get high battling marijuana-fueled blaze in Texas
EDINBURG, Texas (AP) – Some people get intoxicated watching a fire. But a group of Texas firefighters got high battling one.
When a warehouse in Edinburg containing more than 900 kilograms of marijuana spent up in smoke Wednesday, firefighters spent half an hour battling the blaze.
Fire Chief Shawn Snider almost three dozen firemen were exposed to so much marijuana smoke that they would not have been able to pass a drug test, despite wearing air packs to prevent them from inhaling toxic or hazardous fumes.
Snider said it took more than 35 firefighters, almost 4,000 litres of water and 20 litres of chemical suppressant to extinguish the blaze.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were investigating the origin of the drugs.
Meanwhile, local officials were investigating whether arson was the cause of the fire.
