EX-CLARK COUNTY DA PLEADS GUILTY IN POT CASE

A former Clark County district attorney charged with growing marijuana in the basement of his former Neillsville home pleaded guilty Thursday.

Sentencing for Gene B.  Radcliffe, 55, has been set for Dec.  19 in Clark County Court.

Radcliffe served one term as district attorney in the late 1970s and later worked many years at a Black River Falls bank.  He was charged with a felony court of manufacturing marijuana and misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

According to the criminal complaint:

Clark County officials received a call from Washington, Ill., police after they made a traffic stop Feb.  22 on Radcliffe.  Police found a semiautomatic handgun, marijuana and growing supplies in Radcliffe’s vehicle.

Radcliffe was charged in Tazewell County ( Ill.  ) Court with marijuana possession.  Information on the disposition of that case was unavailable.

Police raided Radcliffe’s Neillsville home on Feb.  23 and found an indoor growing operation in the basement.  They also recovered marijuana plants from a fire in the fireplace.

Radcliffe has been ordered not to leave Wisconsin while the case is pending.  He is not allowed to possess firearms.  Any firearms in his possession must be turned over to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department by a third party before Radcliffe’s release from the Clark County Jail.

Radcliffe is not allowed to move from his current home in Black River Falls.  He also must participate in a court-ordered competency evaluation.
