The state I live in is quite liberal when it comes to the use of pot. Medical marijuana is approved, as well as the use of pot for personal pleasure. This has been a part of Oregon’s legislation for quite some time now. While it is true that selling pot is illegal; most police officers will look the other way if the amount is very small.

Migraine specialist Ethan Russo says, “Cannabis is the most useful plant on earth.?

Everything from migraine, cholera, tetanus, grand mal seizures, muscle spasms and even rabies — if there’s an illness, most likely there will be scientific studies of marijuana’s use in treating it. For those of you who are skeptical I suggest the following:

Look up the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) for October 20, 1975. On page 306 you will find an article on how marijuana helps to control epileptic convulsions. Look at the end of the article and you will find eleven footnotes on other studies of marijuana on everything from cholera to epilepsy. These footnoted studies can be found in any medical library, which will have more footnotes to even more studies.

After you finish reading the JAMA article, look for the Journal of Neurology, Volume 236. On page 120, you will find an article of a 1989 study, “Effects of Cannabinoids on Spasticity and Ataxia in Multiple Sclerosis.? At the end of this article you will find 21 additional footnotes on other studies.

Now, look for two issues of the New England Journal of Medicine; September 7, 1995 and January 17, 1980. On page 135 of the 1980 edition you will find, “Antiemetics In People receiving Chemotherapy for Cancer.? Again, it has 12 footnotes to other studies on the medicinal benefit of marijuana. On pages 670 and 671 of the 1995 edition, there are two letters from physicians describing the benefits of marijuana as an appetite remedy for wasting disease and describes how the opposition of law enforcement officials contributes to the prevention of the study of medicinal marijuana.

Then the next time you hear physicians, politicians, prosecutors, judges, and anybody else say there is no scientific proofs of the medical benefits of marijuana, simply call, email or visit one of these people. And in a calm but firm voice simply ask them why they think so.
