Safe Smoking Tips & Etiquette

Smoking in groups can be made a more pleasurable experience for yourself and everyone else by following a few simple guidelines…
- “It’s A Joint, Not A Microphone” (When something is passed to you, take a toke and pass it on – don’t talk for 10 minutes while holding it)
- Don’t “Fish-Lip” (When smoking a joint, try to avoid putting it directly in your mouth – just your lips)
- Don’t Share Your Germs (If you know you have a cold or flu or any kind of contagious condition, please refrain from smoking with others. Many of our members’ immune systems are already in a weakened state)
- Cover Your Mouth When You Cough (Also try not to cover your mouth with the same hand you smoke and pass with)
There are also precautions you can take to reduce the risk of catching a virus by sharing cannabis:
- Use A Glass Pipe (This isn’t any more hygienic than smoking a joint in and of itself, however it allows you to briefly scorch the mouthpiece before you toke, burning off any germs that might be there)
- Use A “Toke-Stone” (A sort of straight pipe with no bowl to act as a buffer – you put the joint in one end and smoke from the other so you don’t have to touch the joint with your lips)
- Use A Chillum (Sort of the same thing as a toke-stone but meant to be used as a pipe – you put the cannabis in the top of the chillum, make a fist, and put the bottom of the chillum between your fingers, then smoke from the hole between your thumb and index finger, as in Figure A. This method can also be used to smoke joints more hygienically by putting the end of the joint between your fingers in place of the chillum)
