MP MURRAY RANKIN TO PRESENT PETITION TO HOUSE OF COMMONS ON BEHALF OF MEDICAL CANNABIS USERS

By admin | February 22, 2013

Victoria, BC.- The International Hempology 101 Society announces that Victoria’s new NDP MP Murray Rankin will be presenting a petition to the House of Commons this Thursday, February 28th on behalf of the thousands of medical cannabis users in Canada. The petition responds to Health Canada’s new Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR) which will take away patients’ personal grow licences.

This comes about after a nationwide protest of the new regulations that took place on February 21st at about 115 MP constituency offices across the country. It was at the Victoria protest that Mr. Rankin approached Ted Smith, the protest’s organizer and founder of the International Hempology 101 Society, to talk over lunch. He offered to help by presenting a petition on our behalf that will address patients’ right to grow.

The petition has been put together by Mr. Rankin’s staff, and is available for download at . Anyone in Canada is welcome and encouraged to download and print the form, then mail it with signatures to Mr. Rankin’s office in Ottawa. He needs to have the petitions by Wednesday to present them on Thursday before the MMPR consultation period is over, so people can either get them to us at 826 Johnson by the afternoon of Tuesday the 26th, or express-post them to the following address:

Murray Rankin
House of Commons
Ottawa, Ontario
Canada
K1A 0A6

We are very excited to see how this goes over at Parliament Hill, and are very grateful for Mr. Rankin’s kind support.

Media Release: Canada-Wide Protests to respond to Health Canada’s Marihuana for Medical purposes Regulations

By admin | February 19, 2013

Victoria, BC.- The International Hempology 101 Society is spearheading a nationwide protest against Health Canada’s proposed Marihuana for Medical Proposes Regulations (MMPR), which are a response to the many court cases that have found the current scheme, the Marihuana Medical Access Regulations, to be in clear violation of section 7 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (CCRF). Our main contention against the proposed changes is that they remove patients’ right to grow their own medicine.

Voices from all across Canada will gather outside their MP’s offices to protest the MMPR on Thursday, February 21st, with 115 ridings confirmed to date. We are also encouraging anyone who can’t make it out to participate in a ‘phone jam’ aimed at the office of our Minister of Health, Leona Aglukkaq, as well as a letter writing campaign. The deadline for public consultation on the matter is on February 28th.
